There’s nothing that God says —no word, no utterance— which cannot be seen. And why is it that it can be seen at all?
Proverbs 4:20-22 KJV
“My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, And health to all their flesh.”
For the most part, God doesn’t command us to do anything that cannot be done (the giving of the Ten Commandments is a stark exception to this idea, He gave us those dos & don’ts in order to show us up). So when God says to keep his words within our sight, it must be because He’s given us some capacity to “see” whatever it is that He says. But how…?
Psalm 91:15-16 KJV
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, And shew him my salvation.”
The word “salvation” at the end of Psalm 91 is the Hebrew word Yeshua, and Yeshua is Jesus’s name (it’s what you’d call Him if you were Jewish and spoke Hebrew). Our LORD’s name is literally salvation! So when God says He’ll satisfy us with long life and show us His salvation, what He’s actually saying is He’ll show us His Son Jesus by putting His primary attribute (salvation) on continual display in our lives.
The salvation Jesus offers us goes way beyond rescuing us from eternal damnation when we accept Him as our LORD & Savior, He’s saving us every day! Whether it be in restoring our health from the throes of sickness & disease or protecting our bodies from dangerous circumstances and would-be fatal scenarios, we’re constantly being saved. His very blood saved us from our sins.
Therefore, the main way we today are supposed to behold a Person who died over 2,000 years ago to put away our sins, and then rose again to sit at God’s right hand in heaven… is by “seeing” Him through a) exposing ourselves to, and b) meditating on the words of God by reading/hearing the scriptures.
John 1:1, 14 KJV
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Jesus Christ is the living Word of God. This means, whether you care to acknowledge it or not, that Jesus is embedded into every utterance made by Almighty God. But, I think, to interpret God’s words through the lens of Grace & Truth (the person of Christ), through Yeshua (salvation) —salvation for mankind, because ‘God so loved the world…’ (John 3:16); and salvation for YOU as His son, because ‘His words are life to those that find them and health to ALL their flesh’ (Prov 4:20-22)— is to specifically see Jesus in the Word. Which is to ‘solidify’ God’s words into a physical form that you can focus and rest your eyes upon. To BEHOLD Him!
And in so doing, you’re meeting the aforementioned requirement from Proverbs 4:20-22, where God says to not allow His words to leave your sight. Thus guaranteeing you receive any benefits associated with it.
Yes & amen
